Job Summary
The position is based in Monguno, Borno State and reports directly to the Sector Manager. The Nutrition Officer is required to implement the nutrition activities at the community.


Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure Nutrition and Health situation monitoring and mapping of sector activities.
  • Conduct periodic Mass MUAC screening in operational areas in collaboration with Community Mobilization teams and care group promoters, volunteers; support Deputy Nutrition and Health manager in drafting report.
  • Participate in conducting SMART/Rapid SMART surveys with technical support from Deputy HN Manager/Sector Manager.
  • Regular monitoring and supervision of Community based nutrition and health service delivery to ensure that services are provided with recommended national technical standards.

  • Ensure that all health facilities/sites have adequate supplies to delivery uninterrupted health care services through identifying needs, informing line manager on regular basis.
  • Systematic capacity building of SMOH staff on health service delivery (IMCI, Ante Natal & Post Natal Care, Delivery  services) including CMAM and SC management.
  • Maintain and update information management, reporting and coordination.

Position Requirements

  • Degree in Health, Nutrition, Nursing or related field with 2 years working experience within humanitarian contexts, with at least 1 year in conflict/insecure contexts.
  • Able and willing to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field.
  • Capacity to supervise and coach health workers.
  • Professional, motivated, flexible and culturally sensitive.
  • Possess excellent team, budget, project management and representation competencies.
  • Proficient in statistical softwares (Microsoft Office package, SPSS, SPHINX, STATA, EPI Info, ENA for SMART, GIS, etc.).

IYCF Officer At AAH (2 Positions)

Job Summary

The position is based in Monguno, Borno state and work under the supervision of the Sector Manager - Nutrition. The IYCF Officer is required to directly implement nutrition activities at the community.


Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct capacity assessment of health facilities: baseline, progress and end line and to come up with reports of the same.
  • Identify issues/problems and solutions as a result of the capacity assessment and progress assessment and in collaboration with the PM adequately implement solutions in order to resolve problems.
  • Conduct rapid/detailed assessment of Infant and Young Child feeding practices in mothers/care givers at mobile clinics.
  • Provide personalized IYCF counselling sessions to pregnant women for the preparation of breastfeeding and colostrum feeding and all mothers with children under 24 months.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of IYCF integration with all CMAM components.
  • Conduct Simple Rapid Assessment (SRA) of all mothers with children under 24 months that attend the OTP/SFP programme through the local Mobile clinics.
  • Identify training needs of Health workers and Community Volunteers attached to facilities as well as conducting theoretical trainings if necessary followed by On Job Training (OJT).
  • Conduct detailed assessment of child feeding practices in women that require additional support or reveal difficulties.
  • Aid in establishing mother to mother support groups (Community Health Groups – CHGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend knowledge of good IYCF practices.
  • Play an active role on advocacy to promote proper IYCF practices, antenatal and post-natal checkups, importance of institutional deliveries, vaccination and growth monitoring.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Nutrition, Nursing or related field. Higher level degree preferred
  • Have a minimum of 2 years working experience in humanitarian contexts, with at least 1 year in conflict/insecure contexts including CMAM, IYCF and community mobilization.
  • Have the ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field
  • Have the willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult working conditions.
  • Have the capacity to supervise and coach health workers.
  • Have excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.
  • Be proficient in statistics and other softwares (Microsoft Office package, SPSS, SPHINX, STATA, EPI Info, ENA for SMART, GIS, etc.)

Health Sector Manager At AAH

Job Summary

This position is based in Damaturu and reports directly to the OFDA Project Manager. The Health Sector Manager (SMH) will be responsible for the overall management and technical direction of Action Against Hunger’s OFDA funded Health and Nutrition interventions that targets vulnerable population and host communities at the affected LGAs in Yobe State.


Task and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the short and long term plans for delivery of project services and provide guidance to the Nutrition and Health project team in the management of project interventions and/or activities for effective project impact.
  • Work with the project team to develop the overall detailed project implementation plan for nutrition and health component in line with predefined project implementation work plan.
  • Manage the assigned Nutrition and Health project interventions in order to meet the project objectives within budget and the allotted time frame and report promptly any operational concerns (e.g. projected failure to meet objectives; increased beneficiary needs; projected over or under spending on project budget).
  • Facilitate regular meetings to support information sharing between project staff, to ensure all staff members are aware of current work plans and to provide the opportunity for feedback.
  • Support the Regional Nutrition and Health Coordination team in ensuring the quality and pertinence of training programmes established for the AAH teams.
  • Ensure projects are implemented in line with donor requirements and in accordance with Action Against Hunger, country and international standards i.e. Sphere and HAP standards.
  • Support the implementation of the Health and Nutrition monitoring systems and record keeping methods that support routine data collection, analysis and reporting in line with the organization and donor expectations.

Position Requirements

The IYCF Assistant will support the IYCF Officer in conducting rapid/detailed assessment of infant and young child feeding practices in mothers/care givers at mobile clinics.

  • One to One tailored IYCF counselling sessions to all mothers with children under 24 months.
  • Represent ACF and the program within the community.
  • Conduct education sessions within the surrounding community on the importance of IYCF practices in conjunction with community mobilisers.
  • Aid in establishing mother to mother support groups (Community Health Groups – CHGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend knowledge of good IYCF practices.
  • Building effective liaison with government staff and involving them into IYCF care practices even in cooking demonstration (where applicable).

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of Diploma in a Nutrition or Community Based Programming or related field.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of one Primary Health Care Center (PHC) in Kukawa Ward including comprehensive services of primary health care and an OTP


  • Management of one Primary Health Care Center (PHC) in Cross Kauwa Ward including comprehensive services of primary health care, an OTP and a nutrition stabilization center (for complicated SAM cases)


  • Management of one mobile health clinic based in Cross Kauwa Ward and covering populations unable to reach the PHC including primary health care services and OTP


  • Management of the pharmacies of the facilities including on buffer pharmacy in Monguno linked to PUI central pharmacy based in Maiduguri


  • Management of referral to secondary health facilities in Monguno


  • Management of a Community Outreach Workers’ network (60 individuals receiving monthly incentives from PUI) engaged in health, nutrition, hygiene and protection oriented awareness raising and in multi-sector needs identification and internal / external referral


  • The 2 health facilities are managed in direct collaboration with the Nigerian Ministry of Health (MoH) with some MoH staff present in the facility and receiving incentives from PUI.


MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Programs: He/She ensures proper implementation and monitoring of health & nutrition activities falling under his/her responsibility, while observing PUI’s health policy.


  • Human Resources: He/She supervises the teams running the 2 PHCs and 1 MHC and the Community Outreach Network.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Team Lead and under the overall guidance of the Incident Manager, the Mental Health Officer will be accountable for the effective day to day management of WHO mental health activities in line with the mhGAP approach, Sphere Project and Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) policies and strategies in the areas of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). The specific functions of the incumbent are:


  • Facilitate training of PHC workers on MhGAP
  • In collaboration with Borno state Neuro Psychiatry Hospital Organize and supervise mental outreach mental health services.
  • Facilitate support to referral of patients to the state Neuropsychiatry hospital
  • Provide timely analysed data on mental health services
  • Support the assessment of mental health services in the state.
  • Actively participate in the mental health related meetings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Purpose of the Position
Under the supervision of the International Medical Doctor, s/he will provide professional technical advice on project design, planning, administration, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition and Health programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, and enhancing teamwork and capacity building.


Responsibilities
Management of the Health and Nutrition Program:

  • Participate in the development of health and nutrition sector budgets and following up on their effective implementation.
  • Develop health and nutrition sector work plans for all the INTERSOS health and nutrition grants.
  • Supervise and coordinate the implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition project activities.
  • Conduct health and nutritional surveillance in the programme sites, including host community and internally displaced persons (IDPs) based on agreed methodologies including surveys, process monitoring, SMART, SQUEAC and other rapid methods.
  • Work with the field based health and nutrition staff and community health Volunteers to establish, implement and monitor community based management of acute malnutrition activities, coupled with patient follow up, referrals and education for their better management at community level.
  • Coordinate with other INTERSOS departments and implementing partners to develop training curricula and implementation plans for community Health Volunteers (CHV’s).
  • Assist in response and management of any health and nutrition emergency and participate in the development of disaster preparedness systems.
  • Promote mother infant and young child feeding best practices in various health facilities.
  • Oversee implementation and integration of comprehensive growth monitoring program/Mass MUAC screenings at community level and report accordingly.
  • Participate actively in planned programme Rapid Health and Nutrition assessment/surveys.
  • Monitoring and supervising both INTERSOS and MOH staff seconded to INTERSOS to ensure work is performed efficiently.
  • Routinely monitor staff performance according to their job description and provide written feedback in a timely manner.
  • Oversee continuous training programs for the health and nutrition staff.
  • Review personnel issues and concerns of health and nutrition staff and assist with determining and implementing solutions.
  • Participate in recruitment of health and staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development of proposals, budgets and concept notes in coordination with the INTERSOS health and nutrition team.
  • Supervise the use of materials, equipment and supplies for the intervention.

Requirements

Northeast Nigeria is currently facing a growing humanitarian crisis with a vast number of Internally Displaced Persons in need of emergency assistance. These IDPs are living among host communities, lacking access to livelihoods and resources, ultimately leading to unprecedented levels of malnutrition and food insecurity. FHI 360 has been working in Nigeria for over 30 years and is now expanding activities in Borno state to respond to the IDP crisis.

FHI 360 is expanding its expertise by responding to this humanitarian crisis through integrated WASH, Health and Protection interventions.


Job Summary / Responsibilities:

  • Position is responsible for nutrition rehabilitation among admitted cases through treatment of clinical complications of severe acute malnutrition and prevention of further deterioration of the nutrition situation through provision of therapeutic feeds, routine and specialized medicines, health and nutrition counseling, and capacity building and technical support to the SC and pediatric Unit in the management of complications associated with severe acute malnutrition.
  • Ensure effective management of complications related in the hospitalized cases
  • Effectively following the SC protocols for the medical care of the SAM cases with complications.
  • Work closely with SC and Pediatric staff to ensure all SC protocols are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP.
  • Prepare plan of action for effective SC implementation in consultation with the SC Supervisor and Pediatrician.
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and documented, including admission, discharge and transfer to and from the OTP.
  • Ensure comprehensive health checks, checking Vitals, frequent medicines and feed administration and treatment according to the protocols.
  • Ensure timely therapeutic preparation, provision and monitoring.
  • Completing and updating the patient file to ensure a track of patient progress
  • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and therapeutic feed supply and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with logistic.
  • Follow-up and provide feedback to the SC Supervisor on the amount and quality of the treatment supplies if it does not comply with specified quality standards.
  • Report on progress and any problems in a timely manner
  • Ensure cases not meeting admission criteria return home or referred to the appropriate programme as early as possible and counsel the family why their child is not admitted
  • Through liaison with the community health worker and mother-to-mother support group facilitator mobilizers and nutrition volunteers, provide effective follow up of default case.
  • Provide key health and education messages to beneficiaries based on the protocol and guideline.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the SC.
  • Follow-up and ensure good interaction with the beneficiaries.
  • If there is a problem, find out what is wrong and find a solution or else contact your immediate supervisor.
  • Perform any other duties requested by the immediate supervisor. 
  • Network and coordinate with the relevant units in the hospital 
  • Follow and respect the current protocols specially drug administration i.e. for de-worming, malaria, polio and measles, and micronutrient mineral/ Vitamin A supplements targeting children and PLW
  • Liaison with the Paediatric unit, pharmacy, store, EPI and MNCH as and when required.
  • Add the activities linked to health and nutrition education in the protocols.
  • Participate in the follow-up of orders and consumption.
  • Compile the statistical data (admission, default, cured, absent, death) and draft a report on activities 
  • Facilitate Ward rounds with the nutritionist and medical officer 
  • Prepare and update the medical and nutritional record for Ward rounds on a regular basis.
  • Convene the ward rounds and update on patient progress.
  • Preparation and Administration of Therapeutic feeds/medicines with recording of patient progress.

Skills and Experience
  • Ability to work in the intensive care settings and able to respond properly to live saving emergencies and resuscitation.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to distribution sites.
  • Excellent spoken and written Local and English languages.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous experience working clinical setting is an asset.
  • Ability to prepare weekly and monthly program reports.
