Location: Nigeria -  Maiduguri / Abuja

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organization committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organization do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 40 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

In Nigeria, violence in the northeast has caused massive displacement and at the same time restricted movement: it has disrupted food supplies, seriously hindered access to basic services, and limited agricultural activities. In seven years of conflict, over 20,000 people have been killed in Boko Haram-related incidents. The entire population of northeast Nigeria – 24.5 million people – is indirectly affected. People affected by violence in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe, and neighbouring Bauchi, Taraba, and Gombe states are in urgent need of protection, shelter, food, and access to health services and education. Since February 2016, as humanitarian access is increasing, extreme food insecurity and malnutrition conditions have been revealed in Borno state.

As of 3rd August, 1.82 million people are estimated to be displaced within/from of Borno state, from which 1.63 million actually stayed within the state. Most of them (more than 1.2m) are living in Maiduguri with the host community and others in formal and informal camps.

Hurray! Nokia Smartphones To Be Unveiled End Of This Year

This one is for my Die-Hard Nokia fans!

A total of 3 to 4 Nokia mobile devices will be unveiled towards the end of this year, according to Mike Wang, president of the joint management team at Nokia China.

To refresh, back in May this year, Nokia announced its plan to return to the world of mobile devices.
In case you missed, there have already been rumors that Nokia is working on a couple of premium phones powered by SD820 SoC, sporting 5.2 and 5.5-inch QHD OLED displays, respectively, featuring a 22.6MP camera, and running Android 7.0 out-of-the-box..

Nigeria will experience annular eclipse on September 1

Nigeria is set to experience an annular solar eclipse that will be visible all over the country on September 1.

The phenomenon is expected between 7:15 a.m. and 10:03 a.m on Thursday, September 1.

This information which was provided by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) yesterday, August 16 informed Nigerians that the annular eclipse would be observed as a partial or near total eclipse across the country.

This was contained in a statement released to the media by the head of media and corporate communications of NASRDA, Dr Felix Ale.
According to the statement, the highest degree of obscurity during this natural occurrence will be in the southern part of the country particularly in Lagos where it is expected to have 80 per cent obscurity while the lowest degree of obscurity will be about 45 per cent and this will be observed in the northern part of the country, particularly in Sokoto. Abuja is expected to be about 60 per cent.

The annular eclipse would be observed as a partial or near total eclipse across the country.

Google is working on a new operating system

Google is working on a new operating system — and it has nothing to do with Android. It's not based on Android nor does it build upon the Linux kernel.

The new OS is called (for now, at least)
Fuchsia. GitHub (a code-sharing website) simply describes it as Pink + Purple == Fuchsia (a new operating system).
What is Fuchsia actually for?
Short answer: We don't know, but there is already plenty of speculation.
There has been no official announcement from Google, but it seems to be an open-source project.
It is also possible that Google will use it to replace and unify Android and Chrome OS; the company's two operating systems.

Polio Counterattack in Nigeria to Be Fast, Difficult and Possibly Dangerous

To contain the virus before it spreads out of Borno State in Nigeria, where both paralyzed children were found last month, a first round of vaccinations will begin as early as next week.

Five more rounds will take place over the coming months in ever-widening circles that ultimately encompass the entire Lake Chad basin in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroon and the Central African Republic.
After two years with no cases in Africa, experts were elated at the imminent taste of victory on the continent, considered the toughest front in the fight against infectious diseases. Those hopes were dashed this week when two new cases were discovered. Now Nigeria rejoins Pakistan and Afghanistan on the list of countries where the disease has not been completely eliminated.
The counterattack against resurgent polio in Africa will be rapid, logistically difficult and potentially dangerous, involving millions of doses of vaccine, thousands of vaccinators and the health ministries and militaries of five countries, experts from the World Health Organization and other groups say.
